يحوي هذا الكتاب عرضاً مختصراً ولكنه واف لكتاب نشر بالإنجليزية تحت عنوان (The Seven habits of highly effective people) أي (العادات السبع اللازمة ليكون الإنسان عظيم الكفاءة والفاعلية)، وقد شدني إلى ذلك الكتاب، الذي كان ترتيبه الأوب حينئذ في قائمة مبيعات الكتب في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، شيئان هامان: أولهما أسلوبه الشيق، حيث أن مؤلفه ذو خبرة واسعة في كثير من نواحي العمل والحياة، وقد وضع فيه خلاصة التجارب التي مر بها.
ولكن الأهم من أسلوب الكتاب هو موضوعه، لأنه يصف لنا طريق النجاح الشامل، سواء على المستولا الشخصي أو على مستوى الأسرة أو العمل، ليس - كما تفعل معظم كتب النجاح الأخرى - عن طريق الحلول السطحية أو السريعة أو المظهرية، ولكن على طريق المبادئ والقيم وهو حقاً ما ينقصناً في هذا الزمان، ويتضمن هذا الكتاب بعض الأمثلة الواقعية والتطبيقات العملية للاستفادة من عادات النجاح السبع التي يشرحها المؤلف بتفصيل ووضوح واقتدار.
ولابد أن أنوه إلى أنني ترجمت ذلك الكتاب وعرضته هنا ببعض التصرف، فقد اختصرته كثيراً عن الأصل وحذفت منه بعض الأمثلة والأقوال المكررة أو التي لا تتناسب مع بيئتنا وتقاليدنا في مصر والعالم العربي، كما أضفت إليه (غالباً في الحواشي السلفية لبعض الصفحات) بعض الأقوال المأثورة، سواء من القرآن الكريم أو أحاديث الأنبياء أو من أقوال بعض الحكماء القدامى أو الكتاب المعاصرين، ورغم ذلك فقد استخدمت ضمير المتكلم في أغلب الأحيان حتى أحافظ قدر الإمكان على الأسلوب الشيق الذي تميز به الأصل، وبالطبع أرجو أن يكون مفهوماً أن المتكلم هنا هو "ستيفن كوفي"
