يُعدُّ كتاب "جولة في المنطاد"، أول كتاب في اللغة العربية يتناول رحلة المنطاد من الألِف إلى الياء، ويبحث في تاريخه وإستخدامه، ليُغني الثقافة الجوية ويرفد المكتبة العربية بنوع هام وجدير بأن يأخذ موقعه في علوم الطيران.
يتناول هذا الكتاب البحث في فرع أساسي من فروع الطيران؛ وهو الطيران بالمناطيد، التي كانت أولى أدوات البشر تمخر عُباب السماء.
المناطيدُ - بأنواعها - آلاتُ طائرة أخف من الهواء، بعكس الطائرات التقليدية التي تُعدُّ طائرة أثقل من الهواء، كما يُعدُّ المنطاد الأخ الأكبر للطائرة، حيث ظهر قبل الطائرة بأكثر من قرن من الزمان، في عام 1783، أسهم كثير من المُخترعين في تطوير المناطيد، إلى أن وصلت إلى ما هي عليه اليوم من تطوُّر.
كما أسهمت الحروب في تطويرها وإستخدامها كأداة لصَدِّ هجمات الغازين، والهجوم على الأعداء، وعلى الرّغم من فتور إستخدام المناطيد خلال فترة ما بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية (1939- 1945)، إلا أن المناطيد عادت لتحتل مكان الصدارة في الطيران الآمِن والهادئ، فرياضةُ التحليق بالمناطيد رياضةٌ روحانية تبعث في النفس، بتحليقها الهادئ، السعادة والسرور المُنقطِعَي النظير؛ وإن كانت مُكلِفة من الناحية المادية، لدرجة أنها تُدعى "رياضة الأثرياء".
