يَعْمَلُ الخَيالُ عَلَى تَوسِيعِ القُدْراتِ العَقْلِيَّةِ لِلطِّفْلِ، وَيُوَسِّعُ آفاقَهُ، وَيُشَكِّلُ دافِعاً لِمُشارَكَتِهِ السًّلِيمَةِ في الحَياةِ. والحِكَاياتُ الرَّمزيَّةُ تُشَكِّلُ أَفْضَلَ عامِلٍ لِنُمُوِّ الخَيالِ عِنْدَ الطِّفْلِ.
فالطِّفْلُ عِنْدَما يَسْتَمِعُ إلى القِصَّةِ (أو يَقْرَؤُها) يَتَخَيَّلُ أَحْداثَها، فَيَسْتَمْتِعُ بِها، وَيَسْتَفِيدُ مِنْها في نُمُوِّ مُخَيِّلَتِهِ وَقُدْراتِهِ العَقْلِيَّةِ.
وإِذا كانَتِ القَصَصُ تَهْدِفُ إلى تَكْرِيسِ القِيَمِ الإِنْسَانِيَّةِ، وَتَسْعَى لِبِناءِ إِنْسَانِيَّتِهِ، فَإنَّ الفائِدَةَ تَكُوِنُ مُضاعَفَةٌ.
