إذا كانت الكتابة الشعرية اجتراحاً لشفرات الخطاب اللغوي وتدوينه، ثم إرساله إلى قارىء محتمل، فإن الشاعر وليد خلفان الشعيلي يفتتح عمله "جفنا الليل أو لعبة لا تنتهي" بإطلالة تتخذ من سيرة حياته اليومية والمهنية، إستراتيجية كتابية لتدوين النص، ويفعل ذلك من خلال (اضمحلال) القصيدة التي يفتتح بها مجموعته الشعرية وفيها يقول: "كخيط أُطلُّ عليكم من ثقب إبرة / أقلّب بصري كقطعةٍ متدليةٍ بحبلٍ يتأرجح / أعود وأخبّىء رأسي / أخبّىء قصاصات قصائد الملاحق الثقافية / وآخر نظرتين في العالم / وابتسامات زوربا الأولى / وغيمة مايكوفيسكي في سحّارة جدي الذي لم أره / وورقة شجرة زام لمداراة سوءة هذا العالم / أملأ قدحي بالوجوه الخشبية / أنبش قبري / واغفر الذنوب". إن الشاعر هنا يجترح زمناً حرجاً يتمثل فيه جوهره الشعري وهو يتأمل علاقته بأخيه الإنسان وعلاقاته بالأشياء والعالم الذي يدور حوله. وبهذا المعنى ترتبط الكتابة عند شاعرنا الشعيلي بقاموس حياتي يرتبط بالمحسوس والمجرد وعلاقتهما ببعضهما البعض، وهو بذلك يؤسس لشعرية خاصة به، خارج حدود النمط المألوف في الكتابة، وهو ما يتميز به عن غيره من شعراء جيله فكان خير من كتب وخير من أبدع.
يضم الكتاب ما يزيد عن الخمسين قصيدة نثرية تتراوح بين الطول والقصر جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "إضمحلال" ، "لقاء" ، "خصخصة" ، "ضجر" ، "نزوح" ، "وحدة" ، "جماجم" ، "غياب" ، "مغادرة" ، "تقافز" ، "شهقة" ، "وجه" ، "لا أحد" ، "صورة" ، "ليلة" ، "حادث" ، "لو" ، "بحث" ، "طوفان" ، "غياب 2" ، "حال" (...) وعناوين أخرى.
