دراسة دور العقيد شمس بدران- وزير الحربية أثناء هزيمة 1967- هو في الحقيقة دراسة لجوهر نظام يوليو الثوري بما فيه وعليه النظام الذي كانت الكلمة فيه تحارب بالدم وتدفع فيه الحجة بالقتل، نظام مزق الأعراض وشتت القيم وسحق الإخلاص وأبعد الدين وقهر القانون وحطم الرؤوس وضيع الذمم، وابتلعت فيه السجون الأجسام ودمرت النفوس، ونظراً لدوره في تصفية خصوم النظام حصل سريعاً على المكافأة بتعيينه وزيراً للحربية في 1966/9/11 وبعد هزيمة 1967 تنازل عبد الناصر لشمس عن رئاسة الجمهورية... ولكن تراجع عبد الناصر وحدث صراع رهيب بين ناصر وعامر على السلطة ودم عشرين ألف شهيد لم يجف بعد فوق رمال سيناء، واستطاع عبد الناصر التغلب على المشير ورجاله وتم تقديم شمس بدران للمحاكمة في يناير 1968 وظل بالسجن حتى يوليو 1974، وحينما أثيرت قضايا التعذيب عام 1975- حكم عليه بالسجن ثلاثين عاماً- هرب إلى لندن في ديسمبر 1975 تلاحقه صرخات المعذبين وأرواح الشهداء.
