يناقش هذا الكتاب أطاريح ثلاثة: أولَاهَا متعلّقةٌ بأزمةِ النّقد الأدبي العربي، ومدى تفاقمِها في أمْدائها المتداخلة والمعقدة؛ فيبدأ بتجلّياتها الأبرز ممثّلةً في التبعيّة النقدية، افتقاد النظرية، غياب المدرسة النّقدية المائزة، المنهجية، عدم التّكاملية، وإشكالية اللغة؛ ثمّ يستبطنُ أزمة الناقد العربيّ ليتقرَّى ظهوراتها ممثّلةً في أزمات: التكوين، الأدلجة، العُصْبَة أو القبيْلَة، البترودولار، لينتهي إلى أطْروحة حلٍّ عبْر برنامج عملٍ؛ ينهض على فلسفةٍ فكريّة تتّكئ على غَيْرَةٍ عربيةٍ ترومُ البحثَ عن ذاتها، وتتشبّث باستقلالها، وعلى ممارسة نقديّة تكشف عن أصالتها وفرادتها، وعلى قيمٍ أخلاقية تُسيِّجُ العمليّة النقدية، وتضمن لها الحَيْدة، والشفافية، وسلامة المقايسة.
وفي الأطروحة الثّانية، يعكفُ الكتاب على تجربةِ أبي تمام الطّائي؛ يستخلص عُصارتها في عشر مَقالاتٍ؛ تناقش أهمّ قضاياه الشّعرية عبر التلقّي النقدي القائم على فكرة الغواية الأولى، وبكارة المعْنى على الخاطر.
أمَّا الأطروحة الثّالثة فقد خصّصنا بها أبا الطيب المتنبي؛ من حيث مشيئتنا العودة إليه؛ نستوفي بعض قضاياه، ونتذوّق شيئًا من نصوصه المغوية. وقد استغرق إجراؤنا هذا مقالاتٍ عشرًا تماثلُ عشريّة أبي تمام؛ قاصدين العدلَ والمساواة بين قطبي الشعر العربي الكبيريْن...، وبعدُ, فهذا كتابٌ ذو رؤيةٍ ونهجٍ مختلفيْن في المسير النقدي العربي؛ حقّقنا من خلاله فكرةَ الغوَايَة الأولى، وفلسفة الاستقلال عن الآخر.
