يقارب الكتاب هذا السؤال المركزي من زاوية علم النفس المرضي والتحليل النفسي، لسدّ النقص الذي يعتري المقاربات السوسيولوجية والسياسية التي تفسر ظاهرة التجذر الإسلاموي بعوامل إجتماعية وسياسية خارجية، مهملةً الأزمات والصراعات النفسية الباطنية التي يستجيب بها الشبان المُجَذَّرون لتلك العوامل، ويحلل هذا التجذر بوصفه عَرَضاً مَرَضِياً إلى جانب كونه تهديداً لأمن المجتمعات.
يقدم الكتاب هذه الإضاءة الكاشفة مبيناً، من خلال النموذج الفرنسي للتجذّر، كيف يتحول شبان و"يَعْبُرُون" من مسلمين عاديين نَكِرَات إلى إسلاميين متجذرين (متطرفين)، يحسون بأنهم يجسدون نموذج "المسلم الأعلى"، إنتقاماً للهوية الجمعية (الأمة، الخلافة) الإسلامية الضائعة، وقضاة عادلين خارجين على القانون باسم العدَالة والقانون (الشريعة) الإلهيين.
ويعد الإضاءة يدلّ الكتاب، مستلهماً الربيع العربي في صيغته التونسية، على مخرج وأفق ممكن لتجاوز "المسلم الأعلى"، وإبطال تأثير الهوامات التي ينتجها خطاب إيديولوجيا التطرف، الذي هو "عش تفريخه".
