يهدف هذا الكتيب، إلى تدليل الطريق للمبتدئين في رحلة إستكشافهم للخطاب اللساني، لذا قد لا تؤلف تعاريف المصطلحات تمثيلاً كلياً للمفاهيم الموافقة لها؛ على إعتبار أنها لا تمثل سوى أدوات أو "مفاتيح" لفتح أبواب علم، يتوجب بالضرورة على القارئ إستكشافه عن كثب، وتعميق المعرفة به عبر جهوده الشخصية.
لقد دأبنا في حدود الإمكان، على تحديد الإطار النظري والمجال الذي ظهر فيه المصطلح (مورفولوجيات، دلاليات...)، حيث يمكن للقارئ إستكمال المعلومات حول هذا المصطلح أو ذاك، وقد آثرنا أن تكون مجموع المؤلفات المضمنة داخل التعريفات مصنفة في نهاية هذا الكتاب.
تنقسم هذه المكتبة إلى قسمين، يمثل القسم الأول فيها إختياراً لمؤلفات المدخل العام إلى اللسانيات، إذ تأتي هذه الكتب أسفل التعريفات مرفقة بتواريخ صدورها، أما القسم الثاني فيرفق مع كل عالم لساني ورد بوصفه نقطة معلمية في تلك التعريفات، مؤلفاته الأساسية التي تسمح للقارئ بتعميق أي مفهوم، أو أي إطار نظري.
وقد سعينا داخل كل مقال إلى إبراز المصطلحات المراد تعريفغها بخط غليظ: تلك التي يجد القارئ من خلالها نفسه مدعوا إلى تذكرها (مثلاً: "اللسان" هو نسق من المعلومات).
وقد اخترنا لتحديد المقالات والمؤلفات الواردة في مكتبة البحث: التي ترافق تعريف بعض المصطلحات: حصرها بين معقوفتين: وذلك حتى يتسنى للقارئ العودة إليها لتعميق معلوماته.
