تطاول الزمن على الحرب الباردة حتى بدت وكأنّها تدوم إلى الأبد، ثم لمّا أيقن أهل الأرض أنهم قادرون عليها، برزت الأسلحة لتعلن عن ميلاد عهد جديد. تناسلت الليالي المظلمة، وأنجب الظلم ذرّية سوداء ذات رداء طويل أسبلته ليمتد حتى غشي أطراف العالم. ومع ذوبان بنات الدهر في بعضها، بدأت نسمات النور تضيء هوامش أهملتها يد القتل لتشرع الحياة في العودة رويدا رويدا. لكن، يبدو أن الحرب الثالثة لم تكن كافية لحفنة من الناجين كي يعوا الدرس جيدا. فأعيد شريط الهرج، ولم تعد الأرض، التي صارت فراغا إلا من العشرات، كافية لإشباع طموح الرجال. بدأت المخطّطات على صفحة بيضاء سرعان ما مال لونها إلى السواد. هذه قصة تروى في زمن الماضي الذي تستقبله البشرية عما قريب. ناجون قلة من الحرب النووية، يكتب لهم مديد من الحياة، ويبسط لهم في العمر لتعمير الأرض، لكن البشر هم البشر، إذ سرعان ما عاد الصراع على الكراسي تماما كما كان قبل أن تلتقي الدول في حرب كادت تجعل الانسان خبرا. تخرج نور مع زوجها راشد من مخبأهما ليجدو أن مدينتهما المزدهرة صارت مقفرة ولا أثر لغير الموت على الأرصفة، يبحث الزوج عن ناجين ليتحطم الأمل على جدار من الجثث الملقاة على قارعات الطريق في غير ترتيب. تتوالى دوريات الزوج ليدركا أن عالما جديدا لا يعرف إلى الانسانية طريقا آخذا في التّشكّل. أيقنا بعد قليل أيام أن لا مناص لهما من الفرار من حياة هي أقرب إلى عالم الغاب لتبدأ الرحلة في طلب ريح الانسانية خارج حدود المدينة..
