ويناقش هذه البحث موضوع ( صورة البطل في المسرح الشعرى المعاصر في مصر ) , وقد استقصى الباحث مفهوم البطولة , ووصل إلى صيغة نهائية ارتضاها لكي ينطلق من خلالها لرصد شخصية البطل متبعاً المنهج التحليلي للشخصية.
وقد اختصصت المسرح الشعرى بالبحث , لأن هناك عدة دراسات تدور حول البطل في الفنون الأدبية الأخرى كدراسة الدكتور شكري عياد ( البطل في الأدب والأساطير ) , ودراسة الدكتور شوقي ضيف ( البطولة في الشعر العربي ) , ورسالة الدكتوراه التي قام بها الدكتور محمد رجب النجار حول ( البطل في الملاحم الشعبية العربية ) , ورسالة الدكتور أحمد الهوارى ( البطل المعاصر في الرواية المصرية ) , وغير ذلك من الدراسات , ووجد الباحث أن أحداً لم يقم بدراسة البطولة في المسرح الشعرى , كما أن هناك دراسات أخرى عن المسرح الشعرى , ولكنها لم تختص بالبطل , ومن هنا كانت أهمية هذا البحث وجدته.
إن البطل هنا ليس البطل الأسطوري الذي يحيا في عالم الخرافات , وليس التاريخي الذي يعيش في زمان غير زماننا , وليس الذي تطغى عليه التطلعات البطولية الحربية فحسب , ولكنه بطل معاصر , يعيش العصر الحاضر , ويعبر عن مشكلات الواقع بجميع أبعاده التاريخية والسياسية والبيئية التي تسهم في بلورة الشخصية , وتعطيها أبعادها وتحدد المهمة المنوطة بها.
أما مصادر البحث فهي تتمثل في ثمان وعشرين مسرحية شعرية.
