عرج على حقل الزيتون.. كانت أغلب شجراته قد هوت على الآرض صريعة، وقد أقتلعت من جذورها.. ما بقى منها نكست فروعها، ونفضت عنها أوراقها معلنة عن حدادها. سار في تثاقل مفعم بالألم واليأس.. اقترب من شجرة التفاح العتيقة.. كانت أوراقها منكسة كأنما تكبي وترثى أحبابها، وبعضاً من فروعها قد طالها القصف فتهدلت تئن من جراحها.. تأمل ما رسمته أنامله وهو طفل يعيش أحلامه المثقلة بالخوف دون أن يعي ذلك.. امتلأت مآقيه بالدموع، وانسابت حارة تبلل كوفيته التي يلثم بها وجهه.. هتف في صوت مهزوم متآكل وهو يعتمد براحته على جذعها العتيق: - لقد نال من أرضنا الغربان.. لم أستطع أن أوف بعهدك يا جدي.
