تفتح الستار ببطء يدخل مسرور وهو عملاق يحمل سيفاً مشهورا بين يديه ووراءه على الجانبين صفان من الجنود فى أيديهم السيوف الللمعة. وفى وسط المسرح قطعة من ساق شجرة تمثل النطع. تدخل شهرزاد من الجانب الآخر ووراءها صفان من الفتيات لابسات الأبيض فى حركة مشابهة لحركة مسرور ورجاله يتقدم الصفان. والموسيقى هى موسيقى الإعدام ولكن فيها نغم لئيم مختفى ساخر مما يوحى بأن الأمر هزل لا جد فيه.. تعلن الموسيقى وأغلبها طبول لحظة تنفيذ الحكم وفى نفس اللحظة تكون حركة الصفوف قد انتهت وتواجه شهر زاد مسرور. خوف مفاجىء يحل بشهرزاد. تجرى يطاردها مسرور. حركة راقصة. الصفوف تتقدم وتتراجع مع حركة الممثلين الأساسيين حتى إذا أصبح انتصار مسرور أكيداً تقدمت شهرزاد من النطع وأزاحت شعرها عن عنقها وركعت لكى ينفذ فيها الحكم ولكن فجأة تتذكر شيئاً تقف. تخرج من بين طيات ثيابها كتاب.. تشهره فى وجه مسرور وسيفه. مسرور يروع.. يسقط السيف من يده يجرى من المسرح يتبعه رجاله. الفتيات يرقصن رقصة النصر وهن ينشدن جماعة:
قل لمن يحمل همــــاً إن همــــــــــاً لا يدوم مثل ما يفنى السرور هكذا تفنى الهمـــــــوم
واللحن هنا كورالات مزيج من الشبرقية والغربية وسرعان ما تدخل على أصوات الفتيات أصوات رجال عريضة وقوية.
مثل ما يفنى الســـرور هكذا تفنى الهمــــــوم
