تعرضت "إيليت" التي كانت تعمل مديراً عاماً لفندق مشهور -لحادثة اغتصاب رهيب- أدى إلى انهيارها وخضوعها للعلاج النفسي مدة تزيد على العام، ثم قررت أن تقضي وقتاً فوق جزيرة معزولة هادئة، حتى تستعيد هدوء نفسها وسكينتها. وفي سبيل ذلك تقوم باستئجار بيت تركته صاحبته العجوز لتقيم في ملجأ لكبار السن، ويقوم بالتأجير رجل يكاد يسيطر على كل الأنشطة في الجزيرة، التي لا يزيد سكانها على ستين فرداً، فهو مأمور الشرط’، والعمدة، وصاحب الملهى، الذي كان على طراز الصالون الذي كان سائداً في الغرب الأمريكي الأيام الماضية.
وكان الرجل الذي يدعي "سيدريك" قد هرب من ماضيه المليء بالمآسي. يحاول الرجل التقرب من "إيليت" ويعالجها من عقدة الخوف من إقامة أي علاقة مع الرجال فهل ينجح؟ وهل يؤدي ذلك إلى وقوعه في حبها؟!
