يحتوى الكتاب على ثلاث أبواب:-
الباب الأول:- فى الترجمة حياة الليث، حققت فيه نسبه وقبيلته ومولده، ووفاته، ونشأته وطلبه العلم.
الباب الثاني:- تناول جوانب الليث العالم، والليث المحدث.
الباب الثالث:- وقد مهدت له بالدراسات الفقهية إلى عهد الليث، وخصائص فقه أبي حنيفة زعيم أهل الرأى، وفقه مالك زعيم أصحاب الحديث. ومنزلة الليث بين أهل الرأى وأهل الحديث. ثم استنبطت أسباب ضياع مذهب الليث وغلبة مذهب مالك عليه. ثم تحدثت عن الليث المفسر، والليث المؤرخ، والليث الإمام. والليث الزاهد الاشتراكي الذى ضرب بسخائه المثل، وكان يملك خراج الجيزة وضياعاً أخري يوزع داخلها بين الناس ولم تجب عليه الزكاة قط، لعل فى ذلك ما يفتح الباب للعناية هذه الشخصية المصرية الاشتراكية الأصيلة، التى رفعت منار الفقه والحديث فى مصر والعالم الإسلامى.
