مؤلف الكتاب الذى نقدم له اليوم فهو: الشيخ عبد الحفيظ بن الشيخ عثمان القارى، من علماء الطائف المتأخرين، ولد بالطائف وأخذ العلم عن علمائها، ومنهم: والده الشيخ عثمان الذى كان يملك مكتبة ضخمة، ثم رحل إلى الأستانة وأخذ عن فضلائها، وأدى اختبار العالمية أمام لجنه من العلماء والمحققين، ربع بعدها لنشر العلم فى بلاده، وكتابه هذا يعد رسالة مختصرة من أربعة تواريخ، لم يزد فيها على ما فى كتب سابقيه إلا بقوله عند ذكر ما كان فى الطائف من المآثر والمزارت: "وقد اندرس أكثر المآثر التى ذكرهاالمؤرخون" كتب هذه الرسالة سنة 1308هـ، وهى فى ثمان ورقات، وكان الفراغ من تسويدها وتبيضها ليلة الأحد 22 شوال 1308هـ، وتمت على يد كاتبها الفقير أبى الفيض وأبى الإسعاد عبد الستار الصديقى الحنفى فى 16 شعبان 1328هـ، وهى النسخة التى اعتمدتها فى التحقيق، وهى مصورة عن مكتبة الحرم المكى.
