لبيان موقع النفس وواجبها بالنسبة للإنسان يشبه النورسي الحياة الإجتماعية البشرية بمدينة، ويعتبر كل إنسان فيها بمثابة قصر أما أهل القصر وسكانه فهم جوارح الإنسان كالعين والأذن ولطائفه كالقلب والسر والروح ونوازعه كالهوى والقوة الشهوانية والغضبية وكل لطيفة من تلك اللطائف معدة لأداء وظيفة عبودية معينة ولها لذائذها وآلامها أما النفس والهوى والقوة الشهوانية والغضبية فهي كالبواب وبمثابة الكلب الحارس فإخضاع تلك اللطائف السامية إذن لأوامر النفس والهوى وطمس وظائفها الأصلية لا شك يعتبر سقوطاً وإنحطاطاً وليس ترقياً وصعوداً.
