أصدرت "حماتى" إلى "زوجتى" أوامرها بأن تجمع حاجياتها فى حقيبة سفر وأن تحمل على كتفيها أولادى منها وترحل فى أول قطار يصادفها وتكون وجهته جنوب الوادى بصعيد مصر وقد كان.. رحلت وحسنا فعلت وإلى غير رجعة. وما إذا عدت من عملى المضنى إلى "شقتى" المتواضعة ذات الحجرات الثلاثة وصالة فى الحى الشعبى "دار السلام" حتى تلقتنى صاحبة البيت وبناتها مخبرة إياى بما حدث من رحيل "زوجتى" المتوقع إلى "قنا" إثر تلقيها مكالمة من الست والدتها تحثها فهيا على الرحيل. فتلقيت الخبر من صاحبة البيت وكأن الأمر لا يعنينى أو أنها تتحدث إلى أحد غيرى وأنا أردد "الحمدلله" .. "الحمدلله" .. وصعدت إلى شقى بالطابق الأول بعد الأرضى ودسست المفتاح فى قفل الباب ففحته ثم القيت بنفسى على أول "كرسى" فى الصالة وبدأت أفكر فى رحلة البحث عن عروسة التى دونتها فى هذا الكتاب.
