تطورت العلاقات العربية –الأسترالية عامة، والعلاقات الخليجية- الأسترالية خاصة، والإماراتية- الأسترالية بشكل أخص، في السنوات الأخيرة في العديد من المجالات، وخصوصاً في المجالات السياسية والإقتصادية والتعليمية والتعاون الأمني والعسكري، التي شهدت زيادة ملموسة في نوع هذه العلاقات وحجمها.
ويتضمن هذا الكتاب الأوراق البحثية للندوة العلمية التي انعقدت في مركز الإمارات للدراسات والبحوث الإستراتيجية في 17- 18 كانون الأول/ ديسمبر 2008 من أجل مناقشة هذه القضايا، التي تتضمن العام والخاص، فمن العام: استجلاء المصالح الإستراتيجية لأستراليا في الدول العربية، والمصالح الإستراتيجية للدول العربية في أستراليا، وموقف أستراليا من قضايا الشرق الأوسط، والمسلمون في أستراليا. ومن الخاص، دور أستراليا في دعم قطاع التعليم والتنمية البشرية في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، بما يفيد في بناء استراتيجية للمستقبل تضمن تطوير العلاقات الأسترالية- العربية لمصلحة شعوب المنطقة، ودورها كذلك في تطوير التعاون العسكري الإستراتيجي مع دول الخليج العربية عموماً، ودولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة بصفة خاصة. هذا فضلاً عن الإستفادة من الخبرة الأسترالية في مجال قطاع الطاقة.
وقد انعقدت هذه الندوة بالتعاون مع جامعة ملبورن بأستراليا، والمركز القومي للإمتياز في الدراسات الإسلامية التابع للجامعة، بهدف إتاحة الفرصة لتبادل الأفكار البناءة وإثراء النقاش بين الخبراء والمختصين.
