"رسالة مقدسة للعالم المتمدن"، هكذا كان تعريف الانتداب على فلسطين، والذي صدقت عليه عصبة الأمم في يوليو/ تموز 1922 وفي نوفمبر/ تشرين الثاني 1947، سوف يكون من شأن تأييد الجمعية العامة لمنظمة الأمم المتحدة لمشروع التقسيم جر هذا البلد إلى عنف متواصل إلى اليوم. ويهدف هذا العمل إلى تقديم وصف سردي لمسار الاحداث الذي لا هوادة فيه مع اخذ معطيات العلوم الاجتماعية بعين الاعتبار، سعياً إلى جعل هذا التأريخ السياسي تأريخاً تفسيرياً بحق. وفي كل لحظة، يجري عرض حالة المناقشة التي تجعل من فلسطين مسألة، الأمر الذي يسمح بتوضيح إلى أي مدى، في ربع القرن ذاك، كانت تساؤلاتنا الراهنة قد طرحت بالفعل. ولئن كانت التفسيرات التي قدمها الفاعلون للنصوص الحقوقية المرجعية (تصريح بلفور، ميثاق عصبة الأمم) تتميز بالطابع عينه الذي تتميز به التفسيرات التي يجري تقديمها لقرارات منظمة الأمم المتحدة، فإن هذا لا يجعل من مسألة فلسطين مجرد تأويل لنصوص أريد لها أن تكون ملتبسة عن سبق عمد وإصرار. فقبل النصوص والمفاهيم، هناك أولاً بشر أسرى ضروب منطق تاريخية واجتماعية تجعل منهم مناضلين وضحايا سواء بسواء. ولأول مرة، تجري معالجة تاريخ الانتداب البريطاني على فلسطين بشكل شامل، ومن ثم إدراجه ضمن إطار التاريخ العام للقرن العشرين، بمكابداته الرهيبة، كما ضمن إطار النزاع الإسرائيلي -العربي الذي سوف ينبثق منه، وتتكون مسألة فلسطين من ثلاثة مجلدات هى المجلد الأول، اختراع الأرض المقدسة، المجلد الثاني، رسالة مقدسة للعالم المتمدن، المجلد الثالث، تحقق النبوءات.
