هذا الكتاب يتناول بالدراسة والتحلي نضال الشعب العربي في اليمن للتخلص من سيطرة العثمانيين وتسلطهم على مقدراته في نهاية القرن التاسع عشر وأوائل القرن العشرين.
وقد أثرت الإمامة الزيدية ثراء سياسياً على حساب ثورة الشعب اليمني ضد حكم الأتراك، حتى حصل اليمن على استقلاله المبكر بالنسبة لشقيقاته العربيات في أعقاب الحرب العالمية الأولى.
غير أن الشعب اليمني لم يستفيد من استقلاله كثيراً في عهد الإمامة نتيجة لتقاعسها عن تطوير بعض الأنظمة الإصلاحية التي وضع العثمانيون أسسها أثناء حكمهم لليمن والتي كان من الممكن أن يقطع بواسطتها شوطاً في سبيل التقدم.
وهذا الكتاب محاولة جديدة لتقصي الحقائق حول هذا الموضوع من مصادرها الأصلية المخطوطة والوثائقية بعد اكتنفه الكثير من الغموض.
