مازالت المقررات الخاصة بالانفعالات فى الكليات قليلة إلى اليوم، على الرغم من انها كثيرة جدا قياسا لما قد تخيلناه منذ سنوات ليست بعيدة، وليس هناك مرجع يفي تماما بكل الاغراض.
لقد قصدنا عند كتابة هذا المرجع طلاب المرحلة الجامعية الأولى - مرحلة البكالوريوس- الذين يدرسون المقررات التمهيدية فى علم النفس، والذين يتذكرون الأساسيات فى تصميم البحوث والتشريط الكلاسيكي والخلية العصبية، وهكذا، وعلى أى حال فإننا نفترض أن قارئ الكتاب ليس من الضروري أن يكون له خلفية علمية كبيرة، بل إننا نعتقد ان الكتاب مناسب لمقرر يقدم لطلاب السنوات الاولى من الدراسة الجامعية. ونحن نعرف ايضا أن العديد من الاساتذة الذين يدرَّسون مقرراً فى الانفعالات يطلبون من طلابهم أن يقرأوا بعضاً من المقالات الاصلية المجمعة فى الموضوع . ومما لا شك فيه أن إلحاق هذا الكتاب مع هذه المقالات سيمكّن الاستاذ من ان يرفع مستوى الدراية والمعرفة عند طلابه، سواء كانوا فى المرحلة الجامعية الاولى أو فى مرحلة الدراسات العليا. ولمن يريد التعمق فى أحد الموضوعات فإننا قد ذكرنا اقتراحات لقراءات اضافية فى نهاية كل فصل. ومعظم هذه الكتب قد كتب بواسطة باحثين محترمين، وهى مراجع فيها من صرامة العلم ودقته، كما أنها كتبت بأسلوب سلس فى نفس الوقت .
إن مقررات الانفعال ينبغي أن تزود بمشروعات طلابية مستقلة . ولذلك قدمنا مقترحات لجمع بيانات لمشروعات بسيطة من التي لا تتطلب تجهيزات عالية ومكلفة.
