بين ثنايا بيبلوغرافية زاخرة ومستفيضة، يندرج كتيب صغير، ربما لم يكن ليثير إهتمامي حقاً، لولا انيجاس التراجيدية السورية؛ نص: في سوريا، الذي كتبه كيسيل سنة 1927، موثقاً من خلال فصوله العشرة وقائع ما عاشه أثناء رحلته لسوريا، غير أنه عمل، تجاوز مستوى الإنطباعات والإرتسامات الشخصية، المنقادة وراء التقاط محايد لمتواليات رحلة عادية، مرتقياً حقيقة غاية التقييم الموضوعي الحاذق لجوانب من سياق المرحلة، المعروفة تاريخياً بالإنتداب الفرنسي على سوريا ولبنان (1920- 1946)، وما انطوى عليه من منزلقات سياسية وجغرافية وثقافية وإثنية وعسكرية، استمرت وامتدت تراكماتها البنيوية حتى الزمن الراهن.
بالتالي، يعتبر ما يحدث اليوم في سوريا مجرد نتيجة طبيعية، من نواحي كثيرة، لما أرسته صياغات المرحلة التي يؤرخ لها كتاب كيسيل.
بالتأكيد، كما أقرت مختلف اجتهادات المؤرخين، يصعب عموماً إستيعاب الحاضر دون إحاطة بالماضي، فالمآلات الجنائزية التي يسرع نحوها العالم العربي، سياسياً وثقافياً ومعه سوريا، تعود بأصولها إلى جرائم المنظومة الإستعمارية في حق عقل وجسد وروح وشعور وطموح شعوب المنطقة.
