L’ homme c’est le désir, Désirer c’est penser: "Il y a quelque chose en dehors de moi, et je vais l’obtenir": argent, renommée, pouvoir, plaisir etc. le désir d’avoir provoque aussitôt la peur de perdre. La grande peur est celle de la mort qui annule toute possibilité d’avoir. La raison est chargée de neutralizer le désir. C’est ainsi que l’homme deviant l’"animal raisonnable".
Les trios grands hommes que nous avons suivis jusqu’ici ne jugent pas le désir, ils vont à sa source. Prajnanpad voit en lui la trace de l’Infini. Rien de fini ne peut nous satisfaire. C’est le signe que l’homme ne supporte aucune limite, qu’il est infini. Heidegger voit dans la tendance spontanée de l’homme à se tourner vers le monde le signe qu’il y cherche son être. Pour Sadra l’erreur consiste à vouloir posséder le monde au moyen de représentations mentales. La véritable connaissance est "présentielle". Connaître c’est être. Celui qui connaît le monde y voit sa propre présence.
Le refoulement du désir engender la pestilence. Il ne s’agit pas de renoncer au désir mais de l’utiliser pour aller au-delà. Le désir a sa racine dans la fausse croyance en l’existence d’un monde extérieur. L’homme échappe au désir et atteint l’immortalité en réalisant que le monde existe dans son Soi. C’est l’extinction du "deux", de la tension sujet-objet, et la revelation de l’ "un", Soi, Le monde objectif deviant le Cosmos à visage humain.
