يتناول هذا الكتاب السيرة النبوية العطرة، والأحاديث النبوية الشريفة التي أعتمدت الحوار وسيلةً ومصدراً معرفيًا أساسيًا في الدعوة ونشر الإسلام، فلم يكن "الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم" فيلسوفًا يناقش قضايا نظرية بحتة، بل هو مبعوث من الله تعالى إلى البشرية جمعاء بالقرآن والتوحيد، وهو مُرَّبٍ لأصحابه، مهذب لسلوكهم، جعل حياته: ليلاً ونهارًا، سلماً وجهادًا، وسيلة للتحاور بين الناس، وتعريفهم بدينهم، وترسيخ قيم العقيدة ومفاهيم الشريعة في أعماقهم، وتحبيبهم في الخير.
هذا الكتاب يحتوى على ثلاثة فصول رئيسة:
الفصل الأول: تناول مفهوم الحوار بوصفه إطارًا معرفيًا، وآلية في التلاقي بين العقول، وكيفية تناول القرآن الكريم للحوار، ثم أخص ما تميز به أسلوب الرسول لغة وتراكيب وبناءً، وهو ما تميز به الرسول وجعل أسلوبه سهلاً ممتنعًا، يقتبسه الأديب ويحتج به اللغوي ويستشهد به الفقيه - الفصل الثاني: تناول أشكال الحوار وبنيته في الأحاديث النبوية ، وسعى المؤلف من خلاله إلى حصر أشكال الحوار النبوي، وكيف أن المتحكم في تكوين كل شكل هو غرض الرسول، ثم الموقف الذي تطلب أن يتكون هذا الشكل - الفصل الثالث: وتناول أبرز فئات المجتمع والشخصيات التي حاورها الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم في مسيرة دعوته، ولم يكن الهدف في هذا الفصل الحصر لمختلف الفئات، بقدر ما هو التركيز على أسلوب الرسول في دعوتهم والحوار، وطريقته في تناول القضية الواحدة بجوانب متعددة، حسب مستويات المخاطبين والمتناقشين معه، فجاء الحوار مع المشركين، والبسطاء، وحول تقلبات النفس المسلمة في الحياة.
