لم يُمنح انحدار بيكاسو من الأرث الثقافي الأندلسي القدر الذي يستحقه من الاهتمام في تكوينه الثقافيّ والتشكيليّ، وغطّت شهرته، وحيويته المتجدّدة على هذه الإمكانية. وإذا ما كان بديهياً أن نعثر على أدلة على معرفته العميقة بالزخرف المالقي، الأندلسي، الذي تحوّل تحوّلات تجريدية باهرة في لوحاته، فإن تأثير فن المستعربين Mozarabe الأندلسيين على فن بيكاسو ظل حتى اليوم غامضاً. يتعلق الأمر بالعناصر التشخيصية لبعض فن بيكاسو وليس الزخرفية التجريدية. وبعضها يدلّنا عليه مواطنوه الأسبان. فقد صار معروفاً استلهام شطر من عمل بيكاسو الشهير “الغورنيكا” من أحد أناجيل المستعربين الأسبانيين الموجود في كاتدرائية دو ليون Catedral de León في مدينة ليون، شمال غربي إسبانيا.إن مؤرخين مثل أندريه غرابر وجاك فونتين قد توصلا إلى فكرة التقاء بورتريهات بيكاسو ذات الوجهين مع عمل المستعربين، ناهيك عن عمل غارسيا رومو الأقدم من بين الجميع. مهما كانت الفكرة سجالية علينا قولها: في الثقافة الإسبانية المعاصرة السائدة ثمة نوع من الطمس الواعي وغير الواعي إلى دينها للإرث الأندلسي، إلا لدى مجموعة متخصصة من المستشرقين الأسبان الكبار.
