قدم الكتاب قراءة مختلفة للعمارة المشهورة في الجنوب التونسيّ. يذهب المؤلف إلى إن فرضية (أحلام) و(أحلام يقظة) عن المنازل تلامِس (الخيالَ السورياليّ) وتمنح الحجرَ حياةً مفعمة بالاضطرام. يستند الكتاب ويناقش أفكار غاستون باشلار. يقوم باشلار بتحليل النصوص الشعرية المتعلقة بأحلام المنازل لكي يبرهن أن للفضاء طابعاً ذاتياً، ضمن منهجيته الظاهراتية: قصدية الوعي، حيث لا يوجد موضوع دون ذات. يلعب الخيال دوراً أساسياً في ذلك، يسميه باشلار (بالخيال الماديّ l’imagination matérielle) الذي يتركز على عناصر الديمومة في الأشياء: “الصور المباشرة للمادة” كما يقول التي وَجَدَ في النصوص الشعرية أفضل التعبيرات لها. إنه إذنْ غير مهموم كثيراً بفن العمارة بذاته، ولا بإيجاد أمثلة من فن العمارة لتقديم البراهين على خياله الماديّ. ما هو الخيال الماديّ؟ أنه الخيال الذي يمنح الأصل الماديّ حياةً. يتمُّ ذلك عبر عمل شعريّ، بل عبر الشعرية- وهي فعل ذاتيّ- التي تقوم بجعل ما هو غير حسيّ حسياً، وتبعث حيواتٍ جديدة، كأنها فعلية، في الأشياء والموجودات الجامدة والكينونة الصغيرة والكبيرة. هذا الخيال، أو نوع منه، متحقق حسب براهين القراءة الحالية، في بعض صور العمارة المسماة “دون وجه حق بالبدائية. الأمر الذي يقرِّب هذه العمارة في آنٍ واحد من خيال النصوص الشعرية التي يستشهد بها باشلار من جهة، ويجعلها من جهة أخرى، تلامِس نوعاً من خيالٍ سورياليّ عندما نتعرَّف عبر عناصرها المعمارية على معطيات اللاوعي المشدَّد عليه من طرف التحليل النفسيّ، المبثوث أيضاً في الشعر الذي يستشهد به عمل باشلار. هذه المحاولة هي ذهاب للتخوم القصوى في مشروع باشلار، أي رؤية هذا الخيال الشعريّ وقد تجسَّد جسداً مادياً ملموساً بالفعل في العمارة. وبقدر دينها لمشروع باشلار فإن طبيعة انشغالها الأساسية تُبْعِدها ع
