يصف الأستاذ عبد الله السناوى مؤلف هذ الكتاب ظاهرة الأستاذ هيكل بقوله: "بحجم قوة التأثير فى حركة الأحداث تحركت على أرض الواقع ظاهرة فريدة لا مثيل لها فى التاريخ الحديث، أن يحوز رجل خارج السلطة كل هذا النفوذ"، وأنه أثبت يقيناً أن "قوة الفكرة فوق قوة السلطة فى أى حساب أخير".
ويحوى كتابه هذا ما أطلق عليه الأستاذ السناوى "الأحاديث" التى أجراها مع الأستاذ أو دارت فى حضوره أو كان شاهد عيان على لقاءات وحوارات ومواقف محورها الأستاذ هيكل.
كلمة "أحاديث" هنا تتجاوز مفهومها الدلالي الضيق وتخرج قطعاً عن حصرها فى دائرة الحديث الصحفي أو الحوار المباشر. كلمة "أحاديث" هنا تحيل إلى معاني أبعد تتضمن الملازمة والعكوف ورسوخ العلاقة وتمثل المعنى والقيمة أكثر من كونها تحيل إلى لقاء عابر أو حديث مسجل.
ينتمي الكتاب لدائرة التأريخ الإنساني والمهني، فى مزيج بديع بين الذاتي والموضوعي، الكتاب بصورة أو أخرى هو قطعة حقيقية ودالة من حياة كاتبها الأستاذ عبدالله السناوى نفسه، فهو يحضر بقدر ما تستدعيه الحوادث وبقدر ما يستلزم إكمال الرواية وإضاءة الصورة.
