ولدت "شابنام زارياب" في كابول، وتعيش حالياً في فرنسا، وتعمل في الإخراج، تقضي وقتها بين السينما والأدب، "عازف البيانو الأفغاني" هي روايتها الأولى التي تحكي فيها عن نفسها، وقد نالت روايتها "جائزة البحر المتوسط للطلاب" عام 2012، وهي حالياً بصدد كتابة الجزء الثاني من روايتها هذه.
