إيفان بونين (بالروسية: Ива́н Алексе́евич Бу́нин) هو أديب وشاعر روسي ولد في 22 أكتوبر 1870 وتوفي في 8 ديسمبر 1953. نال جائزة نوبل في الأدب عام 1933. صدر له أول ديوان شعر في منتصف الثمانينات من القرن التاسع عشر.

يؤكد إيفان بونين، وهو أول كاتب روسي نال جائزة نوبل في الأدب، أنه لم يملك منزلاً أو بيتاً خاصاً به خلال حياته؛ فقد أقام معظم الوقت لدى الأصدقاء والأقارب والمعارف، أو في الفنادق والبيوت المستأجرة. ويؤكّد أنّه عاش في تجوال مستمر؛ متنقلاً من مكان إلى آخر، داخل بلده أو خارجه. لا تخرج الروايتان القصيرتان «ناتالي» و«تانيا»- المنشورتان في هذا الكتاب- عن هذا النطاق، فبطلاهما لا يعيشان في مكان واحد، بل يرتحلان بشكل دائم، وأحداثهما تجري على مراحل متباعدة؛ أي عندما يحضر البطل إلى مكان ما زائراً أو مقيماً لبعض الوقت.
الحبّ هو الشخصية الرئيسة التي تعيش على صفحات الروايتين من السطور الأولى وحتى الأخيرة، حيث تتكشّف قصص الحبّ أمام أعيننا؛ ذلك الحبّ الذي يعتبر جزءاً من عالم كبير وغامض. وبحسب بونين «لا يوجد شيء أكثر فظاعة وجاذبية وغموضاً من الحبّ، سواء أكان في السماء أم على الأرض».
يمتاز أسلوب بونين بالتصوير الدقيق والوصف البارع، والذي لا يشمل المظهر الخارجي فحسب، بل والإيماءات والأزياء والسلوك، ويُخرج أصوات الشخصيات الداخلية إلى العلن بشاعرية جميلة، لتُحدث صدى عميقاً في النفس البشرية، وتولّد أفكاراً غير متوقعة في ذهن القارئ.
