جورج رايموند ريتشارد مارتن (بالإنجليزية: George Raymond Richard Martin) هو روائي وكاتب قصص قصيرة من نوع الخيال العلمي والرعب والفنتازيا، وكاتب سيناريو ومنتج تلفزيوني، معروف لسلسلة روايات أغنية الجليد والنار التي حقّقت أفضل مبيعات حول العالم وقامت قناة HBO باقتباسها في مسلسلها الدرامي صراع العروش. كما يُعتبر مارتن منتجاً مُشاركاً للمسلسل ويكتب حلقةً من كلّ موسم عدا الموسم الخامس القادم الذي أعلن فيه مارتن عن عدم قيامه بكتابةِ أي حلقةٍ للتفرغ لإكمال الكتاب السادس من السلسلة الذي يحمل عنوان رياح الشمال. وقد وصفت مجلة التايم أن جورج هو تولكين الأمريكي. وقد وضعته المجلة في قائمتها في 2011 كأكثر الأشخاص نفوذاً وتأثيراً في العالم.

"أحبَّت آدارا الشتاء أكثر من سائر الفصول، فحين يحلُّ البرد على العالم يأتي تنِّين الجليد".
لطالما كانت تنانين الجليد نادرة، حتى في تلك الأيام، وحين يُرى أحدها يظلُّ الأطفال يُشيرون متعجِّبين، ويُتمتم الكبار ويهزُّون رؤوسهم، فعندما تظهر تنانين الجليد في الأنحاء فهذا نذير بشتاء طويل قاس، حين يخفق تنِّين الجليد بجناحيه تهبُّ الريح الباردة وتدور دوامات الثلج العنيفة ويبدو العالم كأنه ينكمش ويرتعش، ولمَّا يفتح فاه العظيم ويزفر فما يخرج منه ليس ناراً، فتنِّين الجليد ينفث البرد.
غير أن آدارا طفلة الشتاء، وهو صديقها الوحيد، ومعاً عليهما إنقاذ من تحبُّهم عندما تهاجم تنانين النار موطنها، ولكن فقط إذا كانت مستعدة لدفع الثمن.
في هذه القصة للكاتب الأمريكي جورج ر. ر. مارتن نرى بذور الأفكار التي طوَّرها لاحقاً في العمل الضخم الذي قدَّمه بعد ذلك للناضجين.
هنا يقدِّم صاحب "أغنية الجليد والنار" قصة بسيطة ولكن حافلة بسحر وجمال كتاباته ولغته الشِّعرية، تشجِّع القرَّاء الصغار والكبار على دخول عالم الخيال من باب واحدٍ من أفضل من كتبوا فيه.
