بين هاجس الكتابة وجماليتها تمكن الرغبة فى التعبير، والرغبة فى التعبير فى مجال الأدب، هى واحدة من الأسس الذاتية والنفسية لدى المبدع لتحريك الساكن والثابت فى مجال التجربة الإبداعية، من خلال عالمه الخاص شاعراً أو قاصاً أو روائياً أو ناقداً.
وفى هذا السياق، يتناول الناقد "شوقى بدر يوسف"، في كتابه ( هاجس الكتابة ) والذي أصدرته وكالة الصحافة العربية بالقاهرة مجموعة من القراءات النقدية التطبيقية حول عدد من المجموعات القصصية والإشكالات المصاحبة، وهى تمثل تعبيراً عن نوع خاص من التلاقى بين النص وقرينه، كما أنها تمثل وجهة نظر نقدية حول ما تحويه هذه الإبداعات وهذا الحقل من نماذج مختلفة.
وكانت أول مجموعة قصصية يتناولها الناقد بعنوان "علامة الرضا " للقاص محمود عوض عبد العال"، يتميز العالم الفنى للروائى محمود عوض بنوع خاص من الجماليات، التى تستمر خطوطها وأبعادها من سمات تشكيلية فى اللغة، هى فى المقام الأول تثير نوعاً من التواصل والجدل بين الكاتب وعالمه الميتافيزيقى وبين المتلقى وانعكاسه على فكره وعالمه الواقعى، والقصة القصيرة ومفاتيحها عند محمود عوض مرتبطة ارتباطاً وثيقاً بنبض المجتمع ومحتوياته السلبية والإيجابية، وإن كانت كميات الفن التى استخدمها محمود عوض فى هذا العالم المتشابك من إبداعه الروائى والقصصى، والذى ميزه وسط جيله قد غلفت هذا الإبداع بنسيج من هلات الغموض، إلا أن هذا الغموض ليس موصداً لدرجة أن يدفع المتلقى إلى هاوية الإحباط فى التناول.
