جاءت الرواية تحت عنوان "السيّد هان" ترجمها عن الكورية إلى الفرنسية شوا ميكونغ وجان نويل جوتيه وترجمتها عن الأصل الفرنسي إلى العربية زينة إدريس.
تتحدث رواية "السيّد هان" عن طبيب انفصل عن عائلته في عالم منقسم بين الشمال والجنوب، وسط اضطراب أيديولوجي بين الخضوع والخيانة، والواقع القاسي والمثاليّة البحتة. إنّه مشهد لا يُنسى عن تباين التاريخ والهويّة، وعمل محوري في الأدب الكوري المعاصر. يروي هوانغ سوك - يونغ في "السيّد هان" قصّة سقوط رجل نتيجة تقسيم بلاده، وانفصاله بقسوة عن أسرته، ليصبح مصنّفاً اجتماعياً، ومنفياً من الشمال، ومشتبهاً به في الجنوب، ومنبوذاً في كلّ مكان. ويتحدّث في أثناء ذلك عن قسوة عصر مغرق في الجنون يدفع بالإنسان إلى طرق مسدودة. ومن هنا ينبع الجمال المؤثّر لهذه الشخصيّة، التي أصبحت رمزية. في الواقع، القصّة التي يرويها هوانغ سوك - يونغ في هذا العمل هي قصّة عائلته. فالسيّد هان خاله، طبيب في الحياة كما في الرواية، وقد مات بالفعل من شدّة البؤس. أمّا هان يونغسوك فهي والدة المؤلف نفسها، المرأة النشيطة والعنيدة. وكان الجدّ، كما في الرواية، قسّاً بارزاً في بيونغيانغ.
"السيّد هان" قصّة مؤثّرة ومبهرة عن حياة رجل نزيه عاصر أحداثاً عصيبة، وهي تشكّل عملاً بارزاً في الأدب الكوري المعاصر.
