يخبرها عن حبه لها كل يوم، يرسل رسائل الشوق وخطط المستقبل القريب لهاتفها النفال. وكان أسعد يوم له حينما تقدم لخطبتها وتمت الموافقة. هي كذلك كانت سعيدة به، وجدت فيه فارس أحلامها المنتظر.
رتبا كل شيء تقريباً، لم يدعا شاردة أو واردة إلا وناقشاها واتفقا عليها. كل شيء كان كالحلم بالنسبة لهما، لا يريدان أن يستيقظا منه وهما على فراش واحد. في المساء وهو عائد بسيارته من زيارة صديق له في المستشفى، لمح على جانب الطريق خيمة عرس كبيرة جداً تزينها المصابيح بأنوارها الساطعة، فسطعت في رأسه فكرة، ابتسم وانحرف عن الطريق بسيارته تجاه الخيمة، وتوقف في مكان ليس ببعيد عنها، ثم تناول هاتفه النقال وقام بأخذ صورة للخيمة وبعث بالصورة إليها مذيلة بعبارة "الفال لنا قريباً إن شاء الله".
في الصباح التالي نشر في الجريدة خبر "غريب" عن إلقاء قبض على عريس في ليلة عرسه بسبب إطلاق أعيرة نارية في الهواء أودت بشاب في سيارته.
