منذ عتبة العنوان الأولى "يسبقني ظلّي" يدرك القارىء للنص أن يعقوب أحمد اللمعي، يحيل قارئه إلى ثنائية القيمة العلائقية بين الشاعر وظلّه، يساعده الحفر في الصور وأنساق اللغة الشعرية لإقامة منظومة نصية تتجاوز في وعيها الشعري ومجساتها الذهنية الظلال إلى الواقع، والإتجاه صوب عالم متوهج يبحر بك في أكثر من اتجاه، فيحضر في النص الوطن والأهل والأصدقاء والحبيبة وغيرها من عوالم الشاعر، يحاكي من خلالها تجربة إنسانية عميقة، بما فيها من لحظات حزن وفرح وأماني.
في القصيدة المعنونة "ملتقى الأماني" يقول الشاعر:
ملتقانا يحتوي كل الأماني / إنني لن اترك الوقت البديع ، ان دمعي صار حبراً للمعاني / لا يخطُّ الشعر إلا في الربيع ، كان حبي زهرةً قد ضاع منها / عطرها الفواح فالدنيا تضوع.
وفي سياق الديوان ايضاً تحضر لدى الشاعر ما يسمى بقصيدة "المناسبة الحديثة" إذ يقدم للقارىء قصائد تتضمن مناسبات متنوعة مثل قصيدة "ما تحتويه حقيبتي" وقالها "بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للغة على مسرح إدارة التعليم 1436ه بمحافظة رجال ألمع، يقول الشاعر:
حرفٌ توهج فوق بيداء الدُجى / وتقدمت ركب العلوم سيادته ، في حضرة الأذهان ذاع شموخهُ / وتنفست مثل الصباح ثقافته .
وأما في قصيدة "قيد وثيقٌ" يبعث الشاعر أشواقه إلى أمه بمناسبة "عيد الفطر 1434ه ووالدتي ترقد في المستشفى رحمها الله ...". يقول الشاعر:
لا شيء ينسيني وفي خافقي / أطيافها تؤوي عرا مهجتي ، عني وعنها غاب تبياننا / قيد وثيقٌ في مدى صامت .
يضم الديوان قصائد في الشعر العربي الموزون والمقفى والشاعر العامودي جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "سلم الليل" ، "مضني" ، "الزهر فاح" ، "أمي" ، "أبي" ، "ظلال وارفة" ، "حنين إياب" ، "يوم ممطر .. نجران 1434ه" ، "حِكَم" وقصائد أخرى.
