يعرض كتاب "نفحات العنبر" لمؤلفه إبراهيم بن عبد الله بن اسماعيل الحوثي (1187-1223ه) لبعض تراجم أعيان وعلماء اليمن في القرن الثاني عشر، لهذا فهو كتاب في السير والتراجم، يتضمن معلومات مفيدة تاريخية وأدبية وسياسية تعكس الوضع السياسي السائد خلال القرن الذي ترجم لأعيانه وعلمائه. كما احتوى الكتاب على الكثير من المباحث والمسائل النحوية والصرفية والبلاغية ما يعكس الإهتمام بالعلم وكثرة وتعداد المدارس العلمية في هذا القرن والتي كان مركزها المساجد، ومن ذلك جامع صنعاء والروضة والمدرسة في كوكبان وثلاء وغيرها من المساجد المشهورة في المدن الكبيرة والمتوسطة.
ونظراً لأهمية هذا الكتاب باعتبار أنه أجمع وأنفس كتاب في موضوعه. عمل على تحقيقه إبن العلامة أحمد بن عبد الرزاق الرقيحي خطيب وإمام الجامع الكبير بصنعاء - لم يذكر الكتاب إسم المحقق - فكان مدار العمل حول التثبت من صحة النصوص ونسبتها لمؤلفها وكذا التثبت من صحة العنوان من الناحية اللغوية وما مدى مطابقته للمحتوى، وتخريج الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية الشريفة من كتب الحديث. ثم الإشارة إلى مواضع بعض القصائد والأبيات الشعرية التي ذكرها المؤلف في من ترجمهم، ومقابلة النصوص الأصلية بالمصادر التي أخذت عن المؤلف خصوصاً "نشر العرف" و "نيل الوطر" وذلك بذكر ما وردت عليه في تلك المصادر غالباً .. وترجم للمؤلف ترجمة واسعة بالإضافة إلى نقاط أخرى يجدها المطلع على الكتاب ...
