لقد انطلقت الدراسة من مشكلة تتمحور حول ضعف قدرة المنظمات العراقية الصناعية في معرفة وإمتلاك أنشطة إدارة سلسلة التوريد الخضراء وعلى نحو يحقق الإستدامة البيئية، وتركز الدراسة على إمكانية الإستفادة من بعض مؤشرات وجود مثل هذهِ الأنشطة في بعض المنظمات الصناعية وإمكانية تحقيقها في المنظمات قيد الدراسة وهي: الشركة العامة للأدوية / نينوى وشركة الحكماء للأدوية من أجل تعزيز الإستدامة البيئية.
ولقد تم صياغة الأدب النظري على ضوء مفهوم وأهمية الأنشطة لإدارة سلسلة التوريد الخضراء في الشركتين موضوع الدراسة فضلاً عن الإستدامة البيئية، وبطبيعة الحال تم تقسيم الدراسة إلى ستة فصول وكالآتي: الفصل الأول: يهتم المبحث الأول منه بتطور GSCM التاريخي ومفهومها في حين يركز المبحث الثاني على الأهمية والمزايا ومحددات التنفيذ، أما المبحث الثالث فتناول أنشطة GSCM في حين تناول المبحث الرابع نماذج GSCM.
أما الفصل الثاني: تناول المبحث الأول البيئة، أما الثاني فناقش التنمية المستدامة أما المبحث الثالث فتناول الإستدامة البيئية المفهوم والمبادئ الداعمة، وأخيراً تناول المبحث الرابع العلاقة بين أنشطة GSCM والإستدامة البيئية، الفصل الثالث: تضمن الدراسات المرجعية التي تناولت GSCM والإستدامة البيئية ومنهجية الدراسة، كما أنه تضمن أساليب جمع البيانات والمعلومات وتحليلها إضافة إلى وصف مجتمع وعينة الدراسة.
والفصل الرابع: تناول المبحث الأول وصف وتشخيص متغيرات الدراسة، أما المبحث الثاني فتناول تحليل الواقع الحالي لأنشطة GSCM والإستدامة البيئية في المنظمتين قيد الدراسة، الفصل الخامس: إختبار علاقات الإرتباط والأثر والتباين بين متغيرات الدراسة، وأخيراً تصميم أنموذج لنظام مقترح لأنشطة إدارة سلسلة التوريد الخضراء لتعزيز الإستدامة البيئية، الفصل السادس: الإستنتاجات والتوصيات.
