في هذا الكتاب الذي كتبه عالم فاضل من أجلة علماء الأزهر الشريف، تناول المؤلف موضوع الرفق بالحيوان في الشريعة الإسلامية، فأوضح فيه سبق الإسلام في تقرير مبدأ الرفق بالحيوان، وأبرز سمو حضارة الإسلام في مبادئها وأحكامها من خلال حثها على الرحمة بالحيوان والرفق به، رحمة تلفت النظر وتدعو إلى العجب.
وقد اعتمد المؤلف في ذلك على نصوص القرآن الكريم والسنة المطهرة، فساق أولا الآيات والأحاديث التي تحض على الرفق واللين عامة، ثم أتبعها بتلك التي تدعو إلى الرفق بالحيوان بشكل عام، وبأصناف معينة منه بشكل خاص، مختتما بالحديث عن توازن المنهج الإسلامي فيما يتعلق بقضية ذبح الحيوانات، بعيداً عما وقعت فيه المناهج الأخرى من إفراط أو تفريط.
