إن متن العشماوية في مذهب الإمام مالك رضي الله عنه سار عند المالكية مسير الشمس في الفلك، واشتهر بينهم اشتهار قفا نبك. وكثر قارئوه ودارسوه، وتعدد شارحوه ومحشوه. لكن مع ذلك لم يتجه واحداً منهم إلى تدليل أحكامه، وتعليل مسائله. بل ساروا على نهجهم الذي انفردوا به دون سائر المذاهب، من ذكر الأحكام مجردة عن دليلها، والاقتصار على استظهار ابن رشد، وترجيح ابن يونس، وتشهير ابن أبي زمنين، فإن ذكر أحدهم في مسألة قول ابن القاسم، أو ترقى إلى نقل قول الإمام، رأى أنه أتى بما لم يأت به غيره من الأنام!!
وهذا لا يكفي في ميدان الحجاج والاستدلال، لأن الإمام -وإن كان عالك الحجاز وشيخ السنة بدون منازل- لا تكون أقواله واجتهاداته حجة إلا إذا عرف دليلها، وصح في النظر تعليلها، والإمام نفسه كان يقول -وهو يشير إلى الحجرة الشريفة-: كل كلام يؤخذ منه ويرد إلا كلام صاحب هذا القبر صلى الله عليه وسلم، فلهذا كان متن العشماوية في حاجة شديدة إلى شرح يدلل أحكامه، ويعلل مسائله، ويلبسه ثوباً علمياً نضيراً، يتباهى به بين أمثاله من المتون.
والشرح الذي نقدمه اليوم واف بهذا المقصد، زعيم بتحقيقه، كتبه العلامة عبد العزيز بن الصديق الغماري وهو ثاني كتاب في هذا الباب، بعد كتاب "مسالك الدلالة في شرح الرسالة" للحافظ أبي الفيض.
