والميزة المركزية في هذه الدراسات تكمن في أنها تتطلع إلى المساهمة في تعميق البحث في مفهوم الدولة، والدولة الحديثة، وحاجة العرب إلى الإصلاح، وكيفية إطلاق آليات التقدم من دون ضرب الهوية القومية، ومن دون الوقوع في شرك الاستلاب أمام التجارب الغربية في هذا الميدان، وإن كانت تلك التجارب أقدم وأوسع وأغنى.
ولعل الأهمية المنهجية التي تستوجب الإشارة إليها هنا هي أن هذه الدراسات تتنوع من حيث طرائق البحث، لكنها تتوحد في التركيز على الهدف، أي التجارب الدستورية في الوطن العربي، فتقدم بذلك مقاربات مختلفة لكنها في صيرورة تكاملية، تجمع ما بين التنوع والوحدة.
ويبقى أن إصدار هذا الكتاب، في هذا التوقيت، هو بحد ذاته هدف مقصود نظراً إلى ما يعيشه العرب راهناً من تحديات كثيرة تعزز الحاجة إلى إغناء النقاش في كل ما يتعلق بالوحدة والتقدم والسيادة والإصلاح والحرية انطلاقاً من حاجات المجتمع العربي، لا من محاولات فرض آليات إصلاحية، وخارجية على وجه الخصوص، ولا تخدم بالضرورة المستقبل العربي.
