تأتي فكرة هذا الكتاب من ضرورة تجميع نصوص مختارة لكتاب قوميين تعرّف الشباب العربي بالفكرة القومية العربية ومعناها وأسسها، ما هي القومية العربية؟ وما هو الوعي القومي؟ ومن هم بعض أهم الكتاب القوميين الذين أسسوا الفكر القومي العربي أو أثروه؟ وما هي أهم الإتجاهات في الفكر القومي العربي؟ ولماذا نتبنى الفكر القومي العربي اليوم في عصر العولمة والنزعات الإنسانية أو الطائفية؟.
ما سبق مجرد نموذج من الأسئلة التي راحت تواجه الكتاب والناشطين القوميين العرب بتزايد في وقتٍ بات فيه أكثر من أربعة أخماس العرب في سنٍ لم تسمح لهم أن يروا أو يعرفوا الحركة القومية أو الفكر القومي العربي في ذروتهما.
