نظرت عند إقرائي لمغنى اللبيب عن كتب الأعاريب ما كتبه الشيخ شمس الدين محمد بن الصائغ الحنفي وسماه بتنزيه السلف عن تمويه الخلف وذلك إلى أثناء الباه الموحدة والتعليق الذي كتبه الشيخ بدر الدين محمد بن أبي بكر الدماميني بالديار المصرية والشرح الذي أظهره بعد ذلك بالبلاد الهندية وسماه تحفة الغريب فإذا هي مملوءة باعتراضات يتجه جوابها ومشحونة بإشكالات لم ينغلق والحمد لله بابها وقد فتح الله تعالى بأجوبة ما عظم من ذلك وتنوير ما أظلم من أشكال حالك فسألني بعض الأصحاب أن أفيد ذلك بكتاب وأن أضم إليه حل الشواهد والأبيات وشرح ما لم يشرح بعد من المشكلات فأجبت مطلوبة وحققت مرغوبة سالكًا سبيل الإنصاف حائدًا عن طريقي التعصب والإجحاف (وسميته) بالمنصف من الكلام على مغنى ابن هشام.
