الإمام سعد الدين التَّفْتَازَانِي (722هـ - 792هـ)، عالم مسلم، وفقيه متكلم، وأصولي نحوي.
اسمه ومولده
هو سعد الملة والدين أبو سعيد مسعود بن عمر بن محمد بن أبي بكر بن محمد بن الغازي التفتازاني السمرقندي الحنفي، الفقيه المتكلم النظار الأصولي النحوي البلاغي المنطقي. ولد بقرية تفتازان من مدينة نسا في خراسان في صفر سنة 722 هـ في أسرة عريقة في العلم حيث كان أبوه عالماً وقاضياً وكذا كان جده ووالد جده من العلماء.
صفاته
كان السعد التفتزاني إماما من أئمة التحقيق والتدقيق فقد انتهت إليه رئاسة العلم في المشرق في زمنه وفاق الأقران، وبرز في النحو والصرف والمنطق والمعاني والبيان والأصول والتفسير وعلم الكلام وغيرها من العلوم، وكان يفتي بالمذهبين الشافعي والحنفي وانتهت إليه رياسة الحنفية في زمانه.

وهذه مقدمة بين يدى الكتاب تشتمل على الآتى:- أولا: كلمة عن علم الكلام. حقيقته ونشأته، وموقف المسلمين منه عند قيامه، ورأيهم فيه الآن، وهو يمثل جزأ مهماً من تراثهم الفكرى والعقدى، ثانياً: علم الجدل كظاهرة إنسانية لم يخلو منها عصر من العصور، ونماذج من الجدل، واكبت تاريخ البشرية فى سلمها وحربها، ثالثاً: الحالة السياسية، والإجتماعية، والعلمية، فى عصر سعد الدين التفتازانى.
رابعاً: التفتازانى: أسمه ونسبه، ولده ونشأته، إعداده الفكرى وتكوينه العلمى. آثاره ومؤلفاته، خامساً: مكانته العلمية، ورأى العلماء فيه، وفاته، سادساً: كتاب شرح المقاصد، وموقف العلماء منه، وسابعاً: منهجنا فى تحقيق الكتاب، النسخ التى اعتمدنا عليها فى إخراج الكتاب.
