تناول الكتاب مواضيع مهمة في اللغة وهي، النحو والبلاغة والعروض وأصولها تلك المواضيع التي يحتاجها المدرس والطالب على السواء. وقد تناولها المؤلف ضمن خمسة فصول: تناول الفصل الأول التعريفات النحوية عامة ورتبها ترتيباً معجمياً، ووضع بعض الأمثلة التي تزيد التعريف وضوحاً وفائدة، وخصص الفصل الثاني للإعراب حيث أورد المفردات التي لها حالات محدودة من الإعراب كأسماء الشرط مثلاً، ويتناول في الفصل الثالث التعريفات البلاغية عامة ورتبها ترتيباً معجمياً وأورد بعض الأمثلة، وخصص الفصل الرابع لعلم العروض بكامل تفاصيله من أوزان وجوازات وتعريفات وأمثلة وشواهد شعرية توضح ما ذكره في هذا المجال. وأورد في الفصل الخامس جداول تصريف الأفعال، وخصص الفصل السادس للإنشاء والتعبير مبرزاً أساليب البراعة الإنشائية ومقومات العمل الإنشائي وحسنات وعيوب الإنشاء.
