أكثر من مئة عام مرت على بدء الحرب العالمية الأولى ووقوع الأحداث المشهورة باسم "مذابح الأرمن" في تركيا العثمانية؛ ولا زالت تثور تساؤلات يطرحها أطراف عقلانية من كل جانب.
هذا الكتاب موجه بالأساس للقارئ العادي؛ قبل أن يكون للباحث المتخصص. فليس المقصود أن يكون دراسة في التاريخ بقدر ما هي محاولة للفهم والإجابة على أسئلة تثور بالذهن عند قراءة ما كُتِبَ ويُكْتَبُ كل يوم حول المسألة الأرمنية من كلا الجانبين التركي والأرمني. ولست هنا بصدد تأكيد أو نفي وقوع القتل بين الطرفين، فبالتأكيد سُفِكَت دماء عشرات أو مئات الآلاف من الترك والأرمن، رغم الخلاف الحادث على تقديرات تلك الأعداد.
لكن ما حاولت الإجابة عليه هنا هو لماذا حدث ما حدث؟ ولماذا أصاب الأرمن فقط من بين العديد من الأعراق والديانات داخل تركيا العثمانية؟ وكيف جرت تلك الأحداث بهذه الصورة. إنها أسئلة مشروعة وبديهية نحاول أن نقدم لها إجابة من خلال كتابات من عاصروا الأحداث وكانوا ضمن القادة المشهورين. وليس هناك أفضل من الحقيقة حين يرويها أصحابها ومعاصروها.
يتكون الكتاب من تمهيد يتحدث عن خلفيات الأحداث والمشهد السياسي والعسكري الذي صاغ البيئة التي وقعت في ظلها الأحداث. ثم ترجمة لكتاب "الوطنية المنحرفة"، وفي النهاية تعليق على الكتاب يتناول مسألة انحراف حركات المقاومة والتحرر عن مسارها؛ وتخليها عن الوطنية لصالح المصلحة السياسية والذاتية لقادتها أو جماعتها.
