إن الهدف من هذا الكتاب هو تقديم دراسة منهجية مقارنة لآراء وطروحات مذهب الشيعة الإمامية الإثني عشرية دون تقييد أو تحديد بآراء وطروحات المذاهب الأخرى به ونقدهم له، إلا ما استلزم ردُّه أو استحكم نقضه أو استوجب التعليق عليه من العقائد والنصوص والثوابت والمبادئ والأصول التي عليها إجماع المسلمين أو أغلبهم.
كما أن الهدف من هذا الكتاب يمنع من التغاضي عن مأخذ أو خلل أو إستفهام في عقائد الشيعة الإمامية الإثني عشرية وصولاً إلى الغاية المنشودة، وإن التقريب بين المذاهب والأديان يلزم بالضرورة أن يتغاضى كل طرف عما يمكن التغاضي عنه عن مأخذ أو هفوات الطرف الآخر.
لذا، فإن مما يمكن أن يؤخذ في هذا الكتاب أنه لا يبدو صالحاً للدخول تحت مسمى التقريب بين المذاهب الإسلامية من وجهة النظر السياسية أو الفكرية لأنه يحاول أن يقدم صورة مجردة لمذهب الشيعة الإمامية الإثني عشرية يتوخى فيها الوضوح قدر المستطاع للباحثين والدارسين وطلبة العلم في مجالات العقيدة والتراث والتاريخ الإسلامي، بياناً للحقيقة وكشفاً للغموض وعملاً بقاعدة أن الحق أولى أن يتبع، فإن أَصَبْتُ فبفضل من الله تعالى وإن أخطأتُ فمن نفسي ومن الشيطان.
