إن العالم الإسلاميّ من أقصاه إلى أقصاه، قد تغلغلت فيه عوامل الإنقلاب أبعد مُتغلغَل، وانبثَّت في عروقه فواعل التبدُّل أوسع مُنْبثّ، حتى كمل إختماره، وتمَّ إستعداده، فراح يجتاز هذا الدور الخطير في التحوُّل، ثوَّار القوى إلى ما لا حدَّ له؛ فإذا ما سرَّحت ببصرك نحو العالم الإسلامي رقعةً رقعةً، من مراكش حتى الصين، ومن تركستان إلى الكونغو، رأيت الـــ 300.000.000 من المسلمين، قد ثارت نفوسهم مشتدَّة الحركة والإنفعال، نازعة إلى كل ضَرْب جديدٍ من ضروب الآراءِ والأفكار، والمطامح والآمال، وإن عقبى هذا الإنقلاب الشامل لعظيمة جداً، وستتأثر بنتائجها العميمة أُمم الأرض جمعاء، ولله الأمر من قبل ومن بعد.
على أن العامل الأكبر في هذا الإنقلاب هو الحرب العامة، ولكن منشأه ليراه المستقصى أقدمَ عهداً وأبعد أصلاً، إذ انّ بذوره قد ألقيت في تُرَب العالم الإسلامي قبل الحرب الكبرى بمائة سنة بل أكثر، ومنذ ذلك الحين درجت هذه البذور تنمو مزدادة الإستعداد والقوة الحيوية، نمواً مستسرَّ المنهج، بطيء الحركة في أول العهد، ثم على التوالي أوضح سبيلاً وأوسعَ إنتشاراً، وما زال الإنقلاب الإسلامي على مسراه هذا حتى أدركته الحرب العامَّة التي قد تضعضع منها الكيان، فكانت عامل الثورة فجأةً في المعمور الإسلاميّ، فطفق يثور ويهتاج منتقلاً من حال إلى حال، مربدَّ الجوّ بقاتم السحب، لا يسمع فيه السامع إلا القواصف.
وإن وصف هذا الإنقلاب العجيب، ودورِ التحوّل العظيم، وما إليهما من مختلف الأسباب والعلل والنتائج، هو غرضنا الذي قد ابتغيناه من إخراج هذا الكتاب للناس، وقد كنا في ذلك من الذين يصوّرون الشيء كاملاً تاماً فأتينا على بيان كلّ صُور الإنقلاب من دينيّة، وتهذيبيّة، وسياسيّة، وإقتصاديّة، وإجتماعيّة وفي كل من هذه تناولنا الكلام على سببها وتكونها، ونشوئها وترقّيها، وعمومها وإنتشارها، وصفاتها وحالاتها، وما فيها من قوة إنسياق وعامل.
أضف إلى هذا أننا لم نُغفل إيضاح ما في بعض المواضع من الإختلاف بسبب الإقليم والبيئة، من حيث أننا قد بسطنا تلك المضارعة العامة والصفة الكلية، مما هو مصاحبٌ لجميع الحركات على إختلافها مصاحبة دالة على ما هناك من وحدة متوخاة في هذا الإنقلاب الإسلامي.
إن موضوع الكتاب وإن كان مختصاً بالعالم الإسلامي في المقام الأول، غير أنه تناول الكلام على غير المسلمين، كالعناصر الهندوية (الهندوس) في الهند وسواهم إستيفاءً للغرض من جميع الوجوه التي لها صلة بالموضوع، لذلك جُعل الكلام كافياً وافياً في شأن الشرقين الأدنى والأوسط، أما الشرق الأقصى فلم نتناول الكلام في أحواله مباشرة، ولكنا قد أشرنا إلى ما هو مشاهد من الشبه والمماثلة بينه وبين العالم الإسلامي في المجريات العامة إشارة ينبغي للقارئ أن يقيم لها وزناً.
