قيد الله لشريعته وسنة نبيه رجالاً لهم إمامة في هذا الشأن، قاموا بفحص تلك الأحاديث وكشفوا أستارها، وأودعوا العلم بمراتبها في كتبهم، ونشرونها بألسنتهم، وخلصوا الدين منها، وحفظت بهم الشريعة، وتحقق وعده سبحانه بحفظ القرآن، بحفظ أحكامه، وذلك يحفظ سنة نبيه، ودون في الصحيح من السنة وفي الضعيف، وفي الموضوع المفترى المكذوب مؤلفات، ينصّ فيها الأئمة على اعيان تلك الأحاديث خصوصاً ما كان منها من قسم الموضوع لخطر عدم معرفتها، وحرمة روايتها، ونصوا على أسماء هؤلاء الكذابين ليحذرهم الناس وكانت مؤلفات العلماء على نوعين، النوع الأول: في الموضوعات، والنوع الثاني: في الوضاعين.
وهذا الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته جاء في النوع الثاني، وهو أجمع كتاب في الأحاديث والآثار الموضوعة، لخصّ فيه مؤلفه ابن عراق ما في موضوعات ابن الجوزي وما زاد عليها السيوطي في اللآلئ المصنوعة وذيلها له، والنكت البديعات فيما تعقبه السيوطي على موضوعات ابن الجوزي وامتاز هذا الكتاب بالزيادات على موضوعات ابن الجوزي والسيوطي، مما في العلل المتناهية لابن الجوزي وتلخيصها للذهبي... ثم سرد بعد مقدمته أسماء الوضاعين والكذابين، ومن كان يسرق الأحاديث ويقلب الأخبار، ومن اتهم بالوضع والكذب، ولخص ذلك في ميزان الذهبي، والمغني وذيله له... وبلغ أسماء الوضاعين التي سردها ما يزيد على الألفين وجعل كتابه في ثلاثة فصول: الفصل الأول: فيما حكم ابن الجوزي بوضعة ولم يخالف فيه، الفصل الثاني: فيما حكم بوضعة وتعقب فيه، الفصل الثالث: فيما زاده السيوطي على ابن الجوزي. وذكر في الفصلين الآخرين، علة الحديث التي لم يذكرها السيوطي في اللآلئ أو الذيل، وذكر فيهما كثيراً من الآثار الموقوفة، يذكر مخرجها والعلة في وضعها وكان هذا الكتاب خلاصة الكتب في هذا الكتاب مع الاستيعاب والتحرير والتيسير بعدم ذكر السند.
