يبحث في معاني التراكيب التي يستقيم بها اللسان، ويقف على الأسرار التي بسببها عَجَز العرب عن الإتيان بمثل القرآن الكريم. وكيفية وصول هذه المعانى إلى قلوب السامعين في أوجز لفظ، وأبلغ عبارة. وهو يجمع مباحث (علم المعاني) وهو أحد علوم البلاغة الثلاثة. وغرضنا أن نعيد هذا العلم من علوم العربية إلى ما كان عليه في عصورها الزاهرة، علمًا أساسه إدراك جمال النص القرآني، وقد استلهمنا آثار المتقدمين، والتراث الضخم الذي خَلّفوه، كما أفدنا من جهود المتأخرين. وقد حاولنا أن يكون هذا الكتاب ومباحثه في (علم المعاني) وليد عصره، فيجدُ الباحث في نماذجه القرآنية والشعر ما يعينه على تذوُّق النص القرآني وما فيه من أسرار وعبر. والله نسأل أن يكون عملنا خالصًا لوجهه، والخيرَ قصدتُ.
