لم نكد ننتقل إلى دارنا الجديدة في كرمان حتّى اشتدّ برد أواخر الخريف؛ فكان الهواء جافّاً قارساً.
هذا، والمنزل وسيع مساحته 220 متراً مربعاً وفيه ثلاث غرف نوم بلا أبواب، أرضيّتها المبلّطة بالموزاييك غير مفروشة، تكاد تتجمّد أقدامنا عندما تطأها.
علّقنا ستارة سميكة في باب إحدى الغرف وسكنّاها بعد أن فرشناها بالسجّاد دون بقية الغرف، وضعنا مدفأة الكاز فيها وكنتُ أُبقي البنتين في الغرفة وألاعبهما لكي لا تخرجا منها وتصابا بالبرد.
هوّن عليّ تلك الصعاب جميعها وجود رجل عطوف يعمل كل ما في وسعه من أجلنا...
