يضم هذا الكتاب الخلفيات من أجزاء الحديث، تخريج القاضي أبي الحسين: علي بن حسن الحسين الخلعي الموصلي... قد جعلها أحمد بن حسين الشيرازي في هذا الكتاب في عشرين جزءاً، والخلعي صاحب هذه الأجزاء في الحديث هو علي بن الحسن بن الحسين بن محمد القاضي أبي الحسين الموصلي الأصل، المصري، الفقيه الشافعي المعروف بالخلعي، بكسر ففخ؛ لأنه كان يبيع الخلع لأولاد الملوك بمصر... كانت ولادته بمصر سنة 405هـ، وتوفي فيها في 492هـ، وكان مسند ديار مصر، وصفه الذهبي في السير بقوله: الشيخ الإمام الفقيه القدوة، مسند الديار المصرية: القاضي أبو الحسن... المصري الشافعي الخلعي، صاحب الفوائد العشرين، وراوي السيرة النبوية... وكان يوصف بدين وعبادة.... ففيه له تآليف، ولي القضاء، وقضى يوماً واحداً واستعفى وانزوى بالقرافة الصغرى، وكان مسند مصر بعد الحبال، وقال أبو بكر بن العربي: شيخ معتزل في القرافة، له علوّ في الرواية، وعنده فوائد، وقد حدث عنه الحميدي وعرف بالقرافي، له مصنفات عديدة: "الخلفيات من أجزاء الحديث في عشرين جزءاً" وهو المؤلف الذي بين يدي القارئ، "فوائد في الحديث"، "المغني في الفقه"، قال السبكي: وقفت له قديماً على كتاب في الفقه وسمه بالمغني، بين البسط والإختصار...
أما الشيرازي، الذي اعتنى بالخلفيات وتخريج أحاديثها فهو أحمد بن الحسن بن الحسين بن أحمد الشيرازي الواعظ من أهل شيراز، سكن ديار مصر، وكان حافظاً فاضلاً عارفاً بطريق الحديث، رحل عن بلده وسافر إلى العراق والشام والسواحل والجزيرة، وكان بمصر يخرج على الشيوخ مثل القاضي أبي عبد الله محمد بن سلامة القضاعي، وأبي الحسن بن الحسين الخلعي وغيرهما.
سمع أبو نصر الشيرازي ببلدة شيراز وبالأهواز وبابذج وبكازرون وبالبصرة وبالنعمانية وببغداد وبأصبهان وبمكة وبمصر وبيت المقدس وبطرابلس وبدمشق... وبآمدويا لموصل وبتكريت.
صنف "كتاب المعجم لأسماء أصحاب الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، سمع منه ذلك الكتاب في مجلدين أبو الليث نصر بن الحسن بن القاسم السكتي، التاجر، مات أبو نصر أحمد بن الحسن بن الحسين الشيرازي الحافظ بعد سنة 463هـ.
